What is LLM.txt and How to Set It Up

The emerging standard for telling AI assistants exactly what your business does.

What is LLM.txt?

An llms.txt file is a plain text file, placed at the root of your website (yoursite.com/llm.txt), that gives AI assistants a clean, structured summary of your business — instead of forcing them to guess from scraped HTML.

Think of it like a robots.txt file, but instead of telling crawlers what they *can't* access, it tells AI assistants what your business actually *is*.

What Goes In It

A good llms.txt includes:

  • Your company name and a one-line description
  • Who you're for (your target customer)
  • Your key features
  • Your pricing, if you're comfortable sharing it
  • Links to your homepage and key pages

Setting It Up

1

Generate It

Use the LLM.txt Generator in your Fix Tools — it auto-fills from your Agent Readiness setup data.

2

Review and Edit

Check the generated content is accurate. Edit anything that needs adjusting.

3

Upload It

Add the file to your site's root directory, named exactly llm.txt.

4

Verify

Visit yoursite.com/llm.txt in a browser to confirm it's live, then mark it as deployed in AEOBot.
